General Planar Motion - Example Problem 6.8-2

A uniform slender bar (L = 1.5 m) rests on a smooth horizontal sheet of ice when a force F is applied normal to the bar's longitudinal axis at point P. Point P is observed to have an initial acceleration aP of 10 m/s2, and the bar has a corresponding angular acceleration α = 9 rad/s2, in the directions shown. Determine the distance d.

Given:
  • L = 1.5 m
  • α = 9 rad/s2
  • aP = 10 m/s2

Find: d
