Potential Energy

 

 

The potential energy of a body is the energy stored due to a body's position. The two types of potential energy we are studying are gravitational and elastic potential energy. For a particle the potential energy equations are as follows.

 

Particle gravitational potential energy: V_g = mgh

 

Elastic potential energy: V_e = (1/2)kx²
